Milano Torino NIO

The Milano Torino NIO, was born in Italy, around the second half of the 19th century.

Its history begins when in 1786 Antonio Benedetto Carpano, in his studio under the porticoes of Piazza Castello in Turin, after years of attempts, finally manages to make the perfect blend of an herbal infusion to which he adds a dash of white wine, as well Vermouth was born, which later became not only the appetizer par excellence, but also the symbol of Turin.

Milan, however, is not far behind, and Campari, who had gone to Piedmont to learn the distillation of liquors, creates along with his son, in 1860, the bitter, a mixture of 60 ingredients starting with an infusion of herbs and fruits in alcohol and water. In his bar “Il Camparino” launches a new bitter appetizer, antagonist of Vermouth, Bitter Campari.

Vermouth and Campari thus become the most extended spirits of the time and from their union comes the most known and consumed cocktail in all the bars of the young Italy: Milano Torino.

The sweet hints of the Vermouth are balanced with the bitter aromas of the Campari and the slice of sweet orange gives just the final touch.
